Shamley Green History Society

We are one of the oldest societies in the village, which offers interesting monthly talks and visits to local buildings of architectural interest.
We presently have more than seventy members but newcomers are always welcome.  The annual subscription is £7 per person or £10 per couple.
We are looking forward to putting plans in place to restart monthly meetings in the Arbuthnot Hall, and the following talks have been arranged. Members will be informed of any last minute alterations and there will also be a notice on our notice board outside the shop. Tuesday September 7th Talk on Edwardian Cranleigh, by speaker Joy Horn Wednesday October 6th Talk on Archbishop George Abbott by Nicholas Bale Wednesday 10th November Talk on the Wey and Arun Canal and recent work and additions to its restoration. Two of these talks have been taken from last year and we are hoping to use the remaining ones next year. You may be interested in the four DVDs that Neil Harding has transposed from the 2 History Society VHS tapes held by Michael Harding, so they will play on a PC or in a DVD player. Their titles are: Shamley Green Through the Ages 1988 Exploring Shamley Green 1991 International All Stars Cricket Match 2001 Shamley Green Pageant 1990 A Day in the Life of Cranleigh Village Hospital (Unknown date – suspect 1980’s.)
